Daily Rhythm at Shri Kedarnath Dham

At Shri Kedarnath, the day begins before sunrise with Maha Abhishek to Lord Shiva’s jyotirlinga, performed by the temple priests in the garbhagriha. In this abhishek, the linga is bathed with sacred Ganga water, milk, curd, honey, ghee, and other offerings, accompanied by Vedic mantras and Rudra chants.

Darshan for pilgrims usually starts around early morning and continues till noon, then again in the afternoon and evening, structured around aarti timings. The day generally closes with Shayan Aarti, when the deity is ceremonially “put to rest” with hymns like Geet Govind and lamps waved in devotion.

Key Rituals and Pooja Types at Kedarnath

  • Maha Abhishek: The main pre-dawn ritual; comprehensive bathing and adornment of the Shivling, considered highly auspicious for liberation and divine grace.
  • Rudrabhishek: Special abhishek dedicated to Lord Shiva as Rudra, using water, milk, honey, curd, ghee, and bilva leaves while chanting Rudra Sukta; devotees often book this for personal sankalpa.
  • Panchamrit Puja: Bathing the linga with a mixture of five sacred substances—milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar—symbolising purity, nourishment, and devotion.
  • Daily Aarti (Morning & Evening): Lamp-waving, bells, and collective chanting; pilgrims participate for blessings and inner purification.
  • Homa/Yajna (Rudra Homa): Fire ritual with Vedic mantras for protection, removal of obstacles, and spiritual upliftment; usually done as a special booking.

Devotees can offer ghee, bilva leaves, and other items, and many services can be pre-booked through recognised portals or temple committee channels, often under the umbrella of Char Dham packages.

Daily Rhythm at Shri Badrinath Dham

Shri Badrinath Dham follows a similarly structured ritual day centred on Maha Abhishek to Lord Badri Vishal and a sequence of aartis and path (recitations). Early morning abhishek and alankaram are followed by Veda path and Geeta path in the forenoon, and multiple evening aartis create a rich spiritual ambience after sunset.

Darshan windows generally run in the morning and again in the afternoon, between the main pooja blocks, with Shayan Aarti in the evening as a highlight for many yatris.

Key Rituals and Pooja Types at Badrinath

  • Maha Abhishek Puja: The most important ritual at Badrinath, performed in the early morning on the main deity, invoking Lord Narayana’s blessings for health, prosperity, and spiritual progress.
  • Abhishek Puja: Bathing and worship of the deity with water, milk, and other sacred items, accompanied by Vishnu-centric mantras.
  • Veda Path & Geeta Path: Recitation of Vedic hymns and the Bhagavad Gita in the temple premises, reinforcing the intellectual and spiritual tradition of Badrinath as a seat of learning.
  • Kapoor Aarti, Chandi Aarti, Golden Aarti: A sequence of evening aartis using camphor and decorated lamps; each has its specific symbolism and is often booked by devotees individually.
  • Shayan Aarti: The night aarti, performed before the deity is symbolically put to rest; very popular among pilgrims for its serene, devotional atmosphere.

Most of these rituals and aartis have defined donation/booking amounts and fixed time slots, which can be reserved through temple committee systems or trusted booking services linked to Shri Badrinath–Kedarnath Temple Committee.
