Unusual adventures in the vicinity of Corbett

A walk of approximately 8 kilometres is undertaken through the breathtakingly beautiful reserve forests of Corbett. The walk is primarily downhill along animal tracks and is most effectively completed from Tanhau. The tracks that Jim Corbett's infamous Mohan man-eater tiger frequented in his former territory will be utilised as you descend through the forest. I recommend commencing the trail in the early morning, as it provides exceptional opportunities for fauna and bird watching, with occasional sightings of large cats. Nevertheless, the experience of traversing these pristine jungles of Corbett is unforgettable, even on days when wildlife activity is minimal. Although jeep safaris within the national park do increase the likelihood of witnessing a tiger, the experience of exploring the same jungles on foot with the presence of big cats is quite distinct.

Jim Corbett Snow View Point

The small village of Kath KiNao is located approximately 35 kilometres from Ramnagar. The journey is picturesque, with the Corbett buffer forests lining both sides of the road. The landscape becomes hilly after passing through the village of Mohan, and you continue to ascend until you reach Kath Ki Nao, which is situated at an altitude of approximately 4,000 feet. Upon arrival at the village, a brief ten-minute ascent leads to the Kath Ki Nao forest chowky at the summit of the hill. The vistas from this location are likely the most breathtaking in the entire Corbett region. On one side, the Kosi river meanders through the valley below, while the forested hills of Corbett provide a picturesque backdrop. The Ramganga valley, which is equally stunning, is visible from the opposite side. On a clear day, the mighty snow-capped Nanda Devi range can be seen in the distance. A watchtower, which is manned by Corbett Tiger Reserve personnel with a wireless radio, and an abandoned structure are located at the chowky. Nevertheless, this is not an ordinary structure; Jim Corbett resided here while pursuing the man-eater of Mohan. The location where he killed the tiger is approximately one kilometre away, and Jim Corbett enthusiasts visit this location solely to retrace the steps of the legendary gentleman.

Kaladhungi Heritage Walk

He is most renowned for his classic work, "The Man-eaters of Kumaon." In addition, Jim Corbett has significantly contributed to conservation initiatives, particularly among the residents of Kaladhungi, which is also referred to as Chhoti Haldwani for its forests. The village folk administer this Heritage trail, which offers additional insight and experiences into the extensive work of the 'Gora Sadhu', as Corbett was later referred to. The path leads to the model village that Corbett himself established, which encompasses the Corbett Wall and the Jim Corbett Museum, where he displays his muzzle-loading gun. Engage in conversation with the residents of the village as you traverse approximately 3.5 kilometres. The trail is expected to take you through lands that have not yet been "spoilt by the hands of man" and should take you approximately two hours.
